At Communication PowerHouse, our speech-language pathologists use a personalized approach to evaluations, utilizing a combination of standardized and informal speech and language assessments tailored to your child’s individual needs. For younger children, this may involve playing with objects while talking about them, answering questions about pictures, and pointing to or naming pictures. Our evaluators are attentive to sensory needs, distractions, and the need to change activities, ensuring that your child feels comfortable and engaged throughout the process.
We encourage parents to bring any relevant medical documentation, including previous evaluation reports and individualized education plans (IEPs), to help our evaluators better understand your child’s developmental history and known needs. The evaluation will combine assessment results, parent interviews, and professional observations and interactions to determine whether your child is functioning at an age-appropriate level. At the end of the evaluation visit, our therapist will indicate whether your child qualifies for therapy services.
Following the appointment, you will receive a comprehensive written report highlighting the formal and informal assessments administered, as well as observations and parent reports indicating your child’s strengths and weaknesses. This report will make recommendations based on the evaluation, and your speech-language pathologist will discuss with you the next steps that you are interested in taking.
Most insurance plans cover evaluations, and clients are charged only the amount allowed by their individual carriers that is not paid by their plan. At Communication PowerHouse, we are committed to providing comprehensive evaluations that will help determine the most effective treatment plan for your child’s speech and language needs.
